Improve Dog’s Health With a Natural Diet

A healthy diet is important for dogs of all ages. Pets that eat a natural diet tend to have fewer health problems and live longer lives. A natural diet for dogs consists of whole, real foods. Many dog owners are beginning to research the effects that commercial kibble has had on their pet’s health and the possible benefits of feeding a natural diet.

Natural diets for dogs can be raw or cooked. Some people choose to cook their puppy’s food at home while others purchase pre-made raw food. Dogs who are fed a raw diet will have cleaner teeth, better breath and fewer allergies to mention just a few of the advantages.

Feeding a natural diet is also much cheaper than kibble in the long run. This is because being able to buy in bulk, many people are able to purchase their dog’s food at the same price as kibble.

Raw diets for dogs consist of:

Protein: This could be meat (steak, beef, chicken) and eggs (both whole and the yolk). A good combination is to mix different proteins together; such as beef with fish or chicken with eggs. Offering different meats will give your pet a well-balanced diet.

Fruits and Vegetables: Most dogs love eating fruit, however, too much of any one thing can upset their stomachs. Apples are a great source of vitamins for your dog as well as carrots which are high in beta-carotene. Other fruits and vegetables that are healthy include peas, sweet potatoes, green beans, leafy greens, bananas, blueberries, strawberries and mango.

Just like people these are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to fruits and vegetables that can cleanse your dog’s system. The more variety you offer your pet the healthier they will be. Grains: Dogs do not need grains in their diet; however, some people choose to add quinoa and rice.

Raw eggs: For the complete diet, you can add one or two raw eggs for each meal. You can also substitute yogurt that contains live probiotic cultures for this step in the diet.

Bone Broth: If your dog is used to eating kibble then go very slowly when switching them over to a natural diet. Start by mixing the broth with warm water and add small amounts to their food.

Fish Oil: This adds Omega-3 fatty acids to your dog’s food that can help their coat become shiny, reduce inflammation and inhibit cancer growth. One or two teaspoons is the recommended dosage for dogs of any size.

Supplements: Some people choose to give their dogs supplements which are available at most pet stores. These can include, digestive enzymes, probiotics and vitamins.

Commercial dog food

Commercial dog food is made up of processed ingredients and fillers that are not good for your pet’s health. A natural diet, on the other hand, is made up of whole foods that are good for dogs.

When switching your dog to a natural diet, start by slowly adding bone broth to their food. This will help their digestive system adjust to the new diet. You can also add raw eggs, fish oil and probiotics to their food.

Commercial dog food is often filled with chemicals and preservatives that can be harmful to your pet’s health. A natural diet is free of these additives and is better for your dog’s overall health.

Organic dog food

Organic dog food can be expensive because it is produced with ingredients that are more expensive. However, this type of food can be a healthier alternative for your pet because it does not contain any chemicals or preservatives.
